What is Trade With Profile – The Profile Trading Development Pathway?

Trade With Profile is a top-rated skill development firm that was founded in 2017 by Josh Schuler.

Josh Schuler is a full-time trader and trading coach with over a decade of experience. He started out trading stocks in 2009 while getting his MBA (Master of Business Administration) and then added options to the mix in 2010.

What is Profile Pathway With Josh Schuler at Trade With Profile

By the end of 2012, he became a profiler (using volume profile & market profile as primary tools for viewing/analyzing markets) and decided to pursue trading full-time. He’s been consistently profitable in all but one year of his 10+ years of trading.

He has an extensive business background in various sectors: technology, investment banking, non-profit, etc. – and is also a Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA) with a Series 3 License registered with the National Futures Association (NFA).

In my personal opinion, Josh Schuler as coach/mentor and his Profile Pathway as a training course/program are drastically underrated within the “trading education” space. He offers one of the best programs out there for developing deep market understanding.

He doesn’t teach the typical (lousy/cookie-cutter/ineffective) technical analysis found in almost every other trading course. Instead, what he teaches is real market competence, skill, and edge through powerful auction principles and profiling tools.

4 Profile Trading Development Pathways – VOD, Group, 1-on-1, and *Pro:

There are currently 4 different versions of the Profile Pathway to choose from: Video-on-Demand, Group, 1-on-1, and *Pro. Each pathway revolves around the same 16 core training modules, but varies in support/interaction/delivery.

VIDEO-ON-DEMAND PATHWAY

TradeWithProfile - Video on Demand Pathway

The Video-on-Demand (VOD) version of the course/program is the most popular because of the cost ($1,500 one-time). It offers immediate lifetime access to the 16 core modules and supplemental materials for you to work through at your own pace. It also includes 1 complimentary month of Group access – which includes live trading sessions, Slack discussions, weekly Q&A’s, and more (with the option to continue for $85/month).

GROUP PATHWAY

TradeWithProfile - Group Pathway

The Group Pathway progressively works through each module of the course in a team environment. Each week has a specific development focus related to the current module – and a new one unlocks every week. So you can steadily progress through the course at a pace that supports deep internalization. The cost is slightly higher ($395/month for 4 months), but is well worth it for all of the additional features: daily trade plans/scenarios, key decision levels, auction statistics, monthly 1-on-1 coaching calls, and more. This is also the only pathway with a free trial opportunity → Start 1-Week Free Trial.

1-ON-1 PATHWAY

TradeWithProfile - 1-on-1 Pathway

The 1-on-1 Pathway is fully customized to your specific needs. You receive all of the same core modules and supplemental materials as those in the Video-on-Demand and Group Pathways, but the level of support/coaching is specifically tailored to you. This is the most expensive option at $10,000+ (the exact price is determined on a project-by-project basis) and is geared toward commodity trading advisors and aspiring career traders.

PATHWAY*PRO

TradeWithProfile - Pathway*Pro

Pathway*Pro combines the training & mentorship provided by Josh Schuler through his Video-on-Demand or Group Pathway with a funding tryout through Apteros Trading. So it’s top-notch training/mentorship paired with the opportunity to earn a spot on a real futures prop desk. Pursuing this joint path offers several hundred dollars in savings as opposed to pursuing a TWP Profile Pathway and Apteros prop desk tryout separately.

Accelerate Your Development With Legitimate Market Competence and Trading Skill:

It’s honestly a shame how relatively unknown Josh Schuler and his Profile Trading Development Pathway are within the world of trading education. Because what he has to offer is the real deal – it’s one of the best trader training programs available online.

#1 Rated Trader Training Program For Developing Real Market Edge - Trade With Profile

But, sadly, most aspiring traders tend to get blinded by all sorts of nonsense – like sketchy gurus and their flashy marketing/advertising featuring all sorts of lifestyle components (i.e. stacks of cash, exotic cars, mansions, etc.).

Even though this sort of lifestyle marketing has nothing to do with developing legitimate market competence and trading skill, most people are still attracted to it. They want shortcuts/easy routes to trading success that don’t actually exist.

This is why some of the most basic and lousy trading courses/programs/services are actually some of the most popular. It’s not often related to quality; it’s typically related to the marketing/advertising surrounding it. It’s an illusion of legitimacy.

What I deeply respect about Josh Schuler is that he never takes part in any type of flashy, deceptive marketing. What he represents through every Trade With Profile channel (website, social media, etc.) is real habit & skill-building/training.

His Profile Pathway is the best edge/skill development program I’ve been through and deserves far more recognition than it gets.

For someone who is not well versed in trading, I feel a bit overwhelmed with all of the training options. It is understandable that there will be different training for different levels or interests; however, for someone who is pretty green, what do you suggest? Also, considering the limited financial aspect for many, how soon can someone be successful in trading with these training programs?

    • Matt Thomas says:

      Hi Kelly – great questions.

For starters, I highly recommend my Trading Success Framework Course & Trading Paradigm Skool Community (which are both currently free). I created these resources for new/beginner-level traders to understand what being/becoming a consistently profitable trader truly entails; the actual habit & skill-building required from both a technical and mental perspective. I personally love active trading and think it’s an amazing endeavor to pursue. The challenge is incredible and the personal growth & development it demands is second to none. But there’s so much hype, gimmicks, lifestyle marketing, and other harmful nonsense out there in the “trading education” space that basically sets new traders up to spend and/or lose a bunch of money – and ultimately fail. Is proper training & mentorship and supporting tools going to cost some money if you’re serious about becoming a skilled, competent trader? Yes, of course. But I don’t want anyone who gets involved with trading through my website or related resources doing so with false expectations of what it takes to sustainably succeed. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a ton of potential in trading (so that’s what most people selling a trading-related product/service tend to highlight), but it’s not the easy shortcut/get-rich-quick thing that they try to make it out to be.

It personally took me 5+ years to navigate the space and finally reach a level of real confidence and consistency in my approach/results. But I made a ton of wrong turns and mistakes along the way. The reality is that the path to consistent profitability is different for everyone because it depends on a number of factors. But if I were able to give my past self right before I started trading the “blueprint” so to speak of what I know now, I think I’d be able to cut down my 5+ year journey down to about 6 months. I definitely think that’s a realistic timeline for developing traders to achieve IF their focused on the right things (and I try to lay out all the best resources that’ve helped me here). But the problem is that the pull of get-rich-quick programs is so strong, so unfortunately – beginner traders often have to learn some tough lessons for themselves (that these types of “shortcuts” don’t work). I found that every “shortcut” I took wasn’t actually a shortcut at all. In reality, they only made my path harder, longer, and more expensive. The best path, in my opinion, is legitimate education, training, and mentorship to build real habits, skills, and self-sufficiency. In a simple sentence, that’s what it’s all about. It’s easy to say, but rarely followed/listened to. We’re actually in a “golden age” of trading with all kinds of online prop firms available. So if you have the skill, it’s fairly simple to get funded; you don’t need much capital to get started. But the existence of these programs doesn’t matter if you’re not bringing the market competence and trading skill to the table. You can’t outsource the habit & skill-development required, yet that’s what so many beginners attempt to do – and then get angry/frustrated when it doesn’t work.

I hope these insights helped. My intention isn’t to be negative or scare people away from trading. But I’m not interested in “selling” anyone on hype and gimmicks. Trading is a skill-based, peak-performance activity that requires continuous practice and iteration. The potential rewards CAN be incredibly high (virtually unlimited), but not without the hard work (initial training, then regular tracking, journaling, reviewing, etc.). Take care!

“His Profile Pathway is the best edge/skill development program I’ve been through and deserves far more recognition than it gets.”

    – What is the Profile Pathway?
    – How can I benefit from Josh Schuler’s Trade With Profile program?
    – Is there any deceptive marketing associated with other trading courses/programs/services?
    – How does habit and skill-building factor into successful trading?
    – What type of recognition has the Profile Pathway received so far?
    – Does Josh Schuler offer any online support or guidance to traders enrolled in his program?

    • Matt Thomas says:

Hi Terry – This post and a handful of others related to Josh Schuler & Trade With Profile pretty much answer all of these questions. So I highly recommend going through all of those to gain a comprehensive understanding.

But to summarize, the Profile Trading Development Pathway is the flagship course/training program that Josh Schuler offers at Trade With Profile. It contains 16 core lessons that cover interdependent auction market theory and profiling principles, among a handful of additional content (recorded webinars, Q&A sessions, etc.). Students can benefit from Josh Schuler’s training & mentorship by acquiring deep competence and skill around the market auction process and developing a solid playbook of trade setups/strategies with meaningful edge. There’s a ton of deceptive marketing out there in the trading education space, but I respect Josh Schuler immensely for not taking part in that kind of nonsense. Habit & skill-building is a huge part of becoming a successful trader. Contrary to how most people treat it (usually like a platform to randomly/impulsively gamble), sustainable trading is a skill-based, peak-performance activity. The masses aren’t particularly attracted to hard work (which habit & skill-building requires) – which is why real/legitimate training & mentorship programs like Profile Pathway don’t get anywhere near the recognition they deserve. Support and guidance varies depending on the exact pathway (Video on Demand, Group, 1-on-1, etc.), but yes – he absolutely supports the students enrolled in his program.

Hope this helps – take care!

  • Brian says:

I would agree that volume profile is a fantastic way to view the market and can be used effectively to trade. I have taken different courses over the years, some focused solely on volume profile, but had mixed results. As with anything in trading you need a complete plan and not just one tool or indicator. It appears Josh Schuler has put together a cumulative pathway approach that will surely be more helpful than most of what is offered in the retail trading space. Well done on one losing year in ten for Josh, I cannot make that same claim. I look forward to looking into your created and recommended programs.

    • Matt Thomas says:

Hi Brian – I appreciate you sharing your thoughts & experiences!

Would you mind sharing what those volume profile courses were that you went through? Just wondering.

And I completely agree about the need for a complete, comprehensive trading plan. Josh’s Profile Pathway covers more than just auction market theory and profiling (volume profile & market profile). It also covers VWAP, short-term order flow tools, statistics, risk management, the best times to trade, and much more – and ultimately putting all of these pieces of the puzzle together to form a solid “playbook” of winning trade setups/strategies. It’s by far the most underrated and underpriced trader training programs I’ve ever come across in regard to technical edge/methodology.

  • Ashley says:

Thank you so much for your honesty.  I am one of those people that is excited by get rich quick trading programs and the gurus that come along with them!  They are always disappointing and typically a money grab which is super frustrating for people like me who do not have a lot of money to spend as a starting off point and are really trying to learn real skills to actually make some money with trading.  I have faith that you have recommended a good program here and after I finish Korb’s YouTube videos, I will be checking both Aaron’s and Josh’s programs out further.  Thanks again.

    • Matt Thomas says:

No problem, Ashley – happy to help!

My goal here is to help committed developing traders get on a path of real habit & skill-building for long-lasting, sustainable market success – and in my experience, Josh Schuler’s Profile Pathway & Aaron Korbs’ Profile Method align perfectly with that. There’s so much nonsense out there in the “trading education” space that essentially promotes blind, cop-cat trading – but I’ve been there, done that and simply don’t subscribe to the notion that this type of approach works or is helpful in any way. It’s not only ineffective in the long-run, but extremely dangerous financially and emotionally. Too many people either don’t realize it or treat it with the respect it deserves, but trading (in a way that produces consistent profits) is undoubtedly a skill-based, peak-performance endeavor.

  • Anoth says:

Thank you for sharing your personal experience with Trade With Profile and the Profile Pathway with Josh Schuler. It’s refreshing to see that there are legitimate trading education programs out there that focus on developing real market competence and trading skills instead of just flashy marketing tactics.

I appreciate how you’ve outlined the different pathways available and their respective features, as well as your own personal recommendation for the program. It’s evident that you believe in the program’s effectiveness and the value it can bring to traders looking to develop their skills. It’s unfortunate that many aspiring traders get drawn in by the allure of quick and easy success, which is often associated with sketchy gurus and their flashy marketing. However, it’s encouraging to see that there are programs like the Profile Pathway that prioritize skill-building and legitimate market competence.

Thank you for shedding light on Trade With Profile and the Profile Pathway. Your insights are super helpful and informative for individuals like me looking to acquire and improve upon my trading knowledge and skills.

    • Matt Thomas says:

Hi Anoth – I appreciate your comments. Thanks for sharing!

I absolutely believe in this program’s effectiveness. It unfortunately tends to fly-under-the-radar in an industry saturated with nonsense (sales gimmicks, flashy advertising, downright lies, etc.). But the TWP Profile Pathway is one of the best, most legitimate trading courses/programs I’ve ever been through. Like you mentioned, it’s about developing real market competence and trading skill so that you can become a legitimately competent/skilled trader; able to operate intelligently/effectively within the confines of the market. Sadly, this isn’t how most people approach trading (with a focus on practice/training/skill-building). Instead, the far more common approach is to simply jump into a forum, message board, or chatroom (or something like that) and blindly copy some self-proclaimed guru. But without real market competence and trading skill, this is an extremely dangerous and unsustainable approach. People are often shocked by the 90%+ failure rate in trading, but I think it’s incredibly misleading. Being a trader certainly isn’t easy. In fact, it’s quite challenging. But when you consider the way the average person approaches markets (with a copy-cat mentality as opposed to a focus on acquiring real knowledge, habits, and skills for long-term self-sufficiency) – it’s no surprise why so many people fail/lose money. It’s disappointing to see the masses time-and-time-again go down ineffective paths that entice with hype, flash, and entertainment. But hopefully I can help guide at least a small portion of people down the right path if they’re truly serious about making trading a significant fixture in their lives (either trading for a living or at least a meaningful portion of income).

Again, I appreciate your comments – keep them coming! And if you ever have any questions or need assistance, let me know. Take care!

The Profile Pathway program sounds great.  It is a bit expensive, but then if the training is good, it would be worth it.  I am wondering if there is a trail module.  I am one of those investors who has been blinded by hype and graphs.  I became so confused that I turned the responsibility for managing my portfolio to a financial advisor.  I watch and consult, but don’t make the trades.  I am afraid that at my age, now that I am on a fixed income, it is too late to start this kind of program.  However, the article is very informative and interesting.  I am going to do a bit more research to see if this kind of thing is appropriate for someone in my position.  Thanks for the information.

So you’re one of us – a trader who’s been lured by the allure of get-rich-quick schemes and their charlatan peddlers? You, my friend, are not alone! Fortunately for us honest folks looking to make our fortunes via trading and investing, there seem to be some real programs out there. We may have finally struck gold with Korb’s YouTube videos, his and Josh’s programs – let’s hope so anyway! Thanks again for your honest advice.

  • Jeremy says:

Until today, I did not know about Josh Schuler and Trade With Profile.
It seems as though Josh Schuler is clearly an experienced trader and coach. He has an impressive background, and the fact that he has managed to be consistently profitable in all but one year of trading seems pretty awesome.
As far as I can tell from your article, Josh’s Profile Pathway is one of the most excellent programs for developing deep market understanding.  It also great to see that he offers 4 different versions of the course to suit everyone’s different needs.
I feel as though Josh deserves much more recognition than he currently gets.

    • Matt Thomas says:

Hi Jeremy – thanks for sharing your thoughts on Josh Schuler & Trade With Profile.

I absolutely agree that his Profile Pathway is one of the best (yet most underrated) programs for developing deep market competence and professional-level trading skills. There’s no question that he deserves far more recognition than he currently gets. He’s one of the best out there and I wish more people knew about what he has to offer.

  • Liam Tremblay says:

Hey, Matt. This seems like a very innovative and creative way to trade. It’s clear to me that you have spent lots of time and energy trading, researching methods, and developing your craft. I think using profiles as a tool is genius, I’m not a professional in trading with profiles but, as I read your text I learned so much about it. As you mentioned it is important to learn real market competence and skill. Thanks, for sharing this content.

    • Matt Thomas says:

Hi Liam – I appreciate you sharing your thoughts!

I started trading nearly a decade ago and got caught up in all sorts of nonsense (alert services, chat rooms, and newsletters that essentially promoted copy-cat trading). So the first few years went pretty terribly, until I finally decided to be accountable for my own results and build some actual competence and skill. That led me to learning all different kinds of technical analysis indicators and systems (RSI, MACD, moving averages, Fibonacci levels, Bollinger bands, etc.). You name it and I probably studied it and/or had it up on my charts at some point. But most of these “classic” forms of technical analysis didn’t really resonate with me. Pairing some of these concepts with an exceptional mindset allowed me to make the turn to profitability, but they weren’t strong enough to produce super meaningful returns. I felt capped/limited on what I could accomplish with what typically gets taught in the technical analysis world. So it wasn’t until I came across auction market theory and profiling when things started to really open up for me. It sounds cheesy, but it literally felt like I was seeing for the first time – like I’d essentially been trading blind for the previous 5+ years. Of course there’s always uncertainty in markets, but AMT & profiling made market movement/behavior seem much less random and chaotic. I honestly can’t imagine looking at markets any other way. I know that there are numerous ways to trade (in terms of setups, strategies, systems, methodologies, etc.), but if they’re not rooted in AMT & profiling – then I personally think a big opportunity is being missed. On top of developing a strong mindset focused on probabilities, risk management, and continuous improvement – integrating profiling into my approach has been one of the most important things I’ve ever done for my trading business.

  • Michael says:

Hi Matt, and thanks for putting together this informative trading program review. It is reviews like this that help me to learn the ins and outs of this industry. I’m often trying to understand what is a better alternative when it comes to consistently making money in markets, and your content has helped me.

    • Matt Thomas says:

Hi Michael – happy to help!

Far too many hopeful traders go down bad/damaging/ineffective paths; typically ones that focus on dependency and get-rich-quick promises (like guru alert/signal services) as opposed to legitimate education, training, and mentorship (like Profile Pathway). I’m just trying to share what has had the greatest positive impact on me as a trader and hopefully others can benefit from it as well. Over the past 9 or 10 years I’ve come across so much nonsense within the trading education industry, but Josh Schuler and everything he’s doing at Trade With Profile is real/authentic/legitimate. Personally, I think his program is by far one of the most under-appreciated ones out there because it lacks “flash”. But this is the type of program that produces legitimately competent/skilled traders. I wish it didn’t take me so long to find it.
